We have not played a lot of North Africa World War II games but had a very good experience with The Dark Sands from GMT Games designed by Ted Raicer. The most interesting part of the design was the Chit-Pull System and how it created a narrative that was very interesting and felt appropriate for a game of such vast area and so few units to fight with.

Great review guys. Dark Sands is brilliant. Hope you get to play the Dark Valley soon. I found TDV to be a lot more simple in the chit-pull department but kind of clunky with all the rules exceptions. That isn’t a knock against the game: Ted’s modeling several very distinct portions of the war where units and conditions are radically different (TDV almost feels like three distinct games in one). Glad you enjoyed.
