Last year, DVG reprinted several volumes in their Field Commander Series. Fleet Commander: Nimitz – The WWII Pacific Ocean Solitaire Strategy Game was one that was out of print and that I wanted to get my hands on. This is a solitaire game that covers the entire Pacific War from the US point of view. Players can start the game on December 8, 1941 with historically accurate forces displayed across the map. The game contains a simple area land combat system to handle the island combat. The game contains 4 campaigns and rules to link the campaigns to play the entire war.

Quite a bit has been said about the game in the EIGHT years since its debut: For many, a lot of mixed feelings about the play experience. Unusual that the designer back-burnered the game for years before circling back in what seemed like tacit acknowledgement that it was a hot mess that really should have been cleaned up a lot sooner than it was. I think many players just moved on.
If you give it a whirl, grit your teeth and maybe consider ponying up a little more $$ for the expansions, which, along with 3rd ed rules flesh the game out to what it really should have been in the first place. Your (nautical) mileage may vary.

Hey Alexander,
Despite being a MASSIVE DVG fanboy, this is one of the few games that left me a little dry. While I’m real picky about naval games, in general, this sells itself as a “strategic” game… while I’m the tactical guy, at heart. The production quality looks OK. Also the “pacific” is not always my favorite theater. It’s a wet day, in Hell, when “Saint Dan” doesn’t wow me with yet another brilliant game, but this one sits low on my BUY LIST… “Apache Leader” and it’s expansions are in my crosshairs next… just “green lighted” STUKA LEADER.

Strategy game have has an ultimate pleasure and enjoyment. Because strategy games keeps you busy in the game and never let you go towards your daily hard life routines. Your mind and the body keeps fully involve in the games. So let your daily worries away and play strategy games in the free of your times.
