Commands & Colors: Samurai Battles (GMT Games Edition) uses the Commands & Colors System to allow players to portray important engagements of Japanese history. The 40 battle scenarios, included in the scenario booklet, focus on the historical deployment of forces and important terrain features in scale with the game system. The scale of the game is flexible and varies from battle to battle. For some scenarios, an infantry unit may represent an entire clan of soldiers, while in other scenarios a unit may represent just a few brave warriors.

While I’m still struggling with the gaminess of the system, I do appreciate the added control the Dragon cards provide – similar to the Tactician cards added to Napoleonics in it’s Tacticians expansion. I also suspect the system works better with limited ranged firepower, such as in this version; not sure about no loss of effectiveness when reduced.
