Atlantic Chase simulates the naval campaigns fought in the North Atlantic between the surface fleets of the Royal Navy and the Kriegsmarine between 1939 and 1942. It utilizes a system of trajectories to model the fog of war that bedeviled the commands during this period. Just as the pins and strings adorning Churchill’s wall represented the course of the ships underway, players arrange trajectory lines across the shared game board, each line representing a task force’s path of travel. Without resorting to dummy blocks, hidden movement, or a double-blind system requiring a referee or computer, players experience the uncertainty endemic to this period of naval warfare. This system also has the benefit of allowing the game to be played solitaire, and to be played quickly.
Here is a link to my First Impressions post on the game posted on the blog in late April: https://theplayersaid.com/2021/04/22/first-impressions-atlantic-chase-the-kriegsmarine-against-the-home-fleet-1939-1942-from-gmt-games/

Here’s an idea for sorting the trajectory and station markers. I put all the markers with no white slashes (white, red, tan and brown) in one baggie, then all the markers with one slash in another baggie, etc. That way you know which bag has the piece you want, and the colors make finding it easier.
I would really like to see a play-through video with Alexander doing a solitaire scenario. After shooting the video, you can edit out the 30 second or so pauses when he’s pondering the next move. Both Alexander and Grant are verbal enough that I’m confident they can keep a patter of conversation going to keep the feed interesting.
Thanks for doing this. I appreciate that you showed not only how to do a given action, but explained when it’s beneficial (or not) to do so.

One of the best reviews of Atlantic chase I’ve come across; enthusiastic, superb demonstration of game mechanics, and how the game is tense.
I’d agree with you that there’s nothing else quite like it. I was excited to hear there’s some u-boat mechanics; perhaps that’s something the designer will focus on further in a future game.
Now the only problem is you’re right about it selling out; I can’t find a reasonably priced copy anywhere, so will have to wait for the next p500 print run.
Excellent review; you’ve made this a MUST BUY for me.
