Solitaire General: Napoleon at Waterloo is a solitaire game where the player steps into the mind of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte on June 18, 1815 and takes on his greatest challenge. Can you defeat the combined armies of Wellington and Blücher near the small town of Waterloo, or will you be defeated and deposed from the throne of France?
Your objective, as Napoleon, is not only to crush Wellington’s hodgepodge Allied forces, but you must also retain enough of your army – especially the Guard – for the battles to come. For if Napoleon won at Waterloo, he would still have to face a large Russian and Austrian armies.
The key to the game is the revealing of the Allied forces. When Napoleon arranged his forces at Waterloo most of the Allied forces were hidden behind tall crops, hedges, ridges and other terrain features. So it will be with you – as you make contact with the enemy, their forces will start to be revealed. Perhaps your attack will hit weak troops, or maybe you’ll end up facing the British Guard and their fearsome heavy cavalry! Every game will be different and your decisions will determine victory or defeat.
