Maori: Warriors of the Long White Cloud from Compass Games is a historic simulation game for one to four players, depicting clan warfare typical in New Zealand before European colonization (around 1450 A.D.). Players will use use their cards as either events or for Op Points to build war canoes and train warriors to create a force to strike at their adversaries, while protecting their home village. The game also focuses on development of villages, building up of technologies and the management of scarce resources such as wood and food to do this. Each of the players is represented on the board as the Paramount Chief meaning that if this leader is killed, the game is over for them.

I was able to get this one to the table last summer while attending the World Boardgaming Championships and played with the designer Kevin McPartland. We had a great time and enjoyed the game for what it is, which is a lite historical look at the peoples of New Zealand.

We posted an interview with the designer Kevin McPartland a few years ago (2020) and you can read that on the blog at the following link: https://theplayersaid.com/2020/09/14/interview-with-kevin-mcpartland-co-designer-of-maori-warriors-of-the-long-white-cloud-from-compass-games/
