Last summer, we played various games covering the French & Indian War and then discussed them in a 48 minute video. The games we discussed included the following:
Wilderness War from GMT Games
A Few Acres of Snow from Treefrog Games
1754 Conquest: The French and Indian War from Academy Games
Bloody Mohawk: The French and Indian War from Lock ‘n Load Publishing
French and Indian War from Worthington Publishing
Bayonets & Tomahawks: The French and Indian War from GMT Games
-Grant
Honesty: I just wanted to see what you had to say about two of these games, and I thank you for including your agenda in the email.
I agree that Worthington’s French and Indian War is a wonderfully quick introductory war game with some very good strategic elements. I have solo’d several games and (via Zoom) played two extremely tense games. In response to the gent who asked you, “Can the French win?,” yes, they can; the French won both of the Zoom games I played.
I agree with Alexander that this is very light, and I’m on the same page regarding retreats from battle. Sometimes it makes more sense to gut it out for another round, and the “dice-chuck” just might pay off.
I also watched what you had to say about Bay & Tom. I own this, have cracked the box, and very carefully put the lid on and shelved it for another time when I feel I can deal mentally with its complexity. I had the same feeling about Holland ’44: That’s a LOT of game! I will get to it when my aging brain feels like tackling it.
Note: I’m going to set up Holland ’44 at GMT in a couple weeks and hope I find someone to play…someone who will relish kicking my butt. I also intend to ask someone with experience to take me through a few turns of Bay & Tom to give me a feel for the game…stimulus to set it up and play when I’m home.

I assume all of these are good games since you previewed them here, but which three are your favorites?

I had always thought I would one day come across a copy of Wilderness War, but I did get Bayonets and Tomahawks on the P500, but have not removed the shrink yet. If I chose to just keep one F&IW-themed game on the shelf, will Bayonets be a good representative, or is Wilderness War still a must-have?

B&T is very good and has some slightly different takes on battle than WW. Both are great. Ones a classic the other a great game.
