We have been on a solitaire kick recently and I am not going to apologize for that as we have really found some great little games. NATO Air Commander is a game that ticks quite a few boxes for us as it uses cards, is well designed, is published by one of our favorite smaller publishers Hollandspiele and focuses on an interesting topic in a Cold War gone hot/World War III scenario.

NATO Air Commander is a really challenging air resource management game. I really like the pressure that comes from watching the front relentlessly advance and the euphoria that comes after your strikes push the front back.
Unfortunately, I don’t get that euphoric feeling too often.
But I keep coming back because it is possible to win. It just takes good planning (and a bit of luck).

IMHO. A good solo game is not easy to win as it should be a real challenge. Too easy and you never come back. Better to have the euphoria of victory occasionally rather than upon every play. Makes you appreciate it.

I’m always up for a great solo game! Though I’m not huge into air games, I DO appreciate a well organized one ( B-17, Luftwaffe (AH), Richthofen’s War, DVG games, wings of glory, etc), but give me one that challenges me and I’m on it! Looks like a great game… and I’ll put it on my BUY list.
